For over a century, Egan, Flanagan and Cohen’s litigators have represented individuals, businesses, and institutions in the courtrooms of Western Massachusetts and beyond, compiling a trial record that few firms in the Commonwealth can match. Among our attorneys, we have tried hundreds of cases to verdict in state and federal courts, argued before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, the Massachusetts Appeals Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court, and repeatedly obtained the largest verdicts and settlements in Western Massachusetts.

Some firms handle disputes. Egan, Flanagan & Cohen tries them — and wins.

A record built one landmark case at a time.

Collectively, Egan, Flanagan and Cohen’s trial lawyers have recovered more than $260 million in verdicts and settlements, including the largest jury verdict in Massachusetts history under the Massachusetts Wrongful Death Act ($32.4 million); a $21 million commercial lease verdict affirmed by the Supreme Judicial Court; and a $50.3 million arbitration award in a complex property damage and insurance coverage dispute.

Our litigators have changed Massachusetts law. In H1 Lincoln, Inc. v. South Washington Street, LLC, our trial team won a two-week jury trial and then successfully defended that verdict before the Supreme Judicial Court, in a decision that strengthened protections for Massachusetts businesses against unfair and deceptive practices under G.L. c. 93A. In City Electric Supply Co. v. Arch Insurance Co., we successfully persuaded the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to reject an unwritten procedural requirement in the mechanic’s lien statute, creating an important precedent for contractors, suppliers, and sureties across the Commonwealth. And in Hazen Paper Co. v. Biggins, our attorneys argued a landmark age discrimination and ERISA case before the United States Supreme Court itself.

Full-spectrum litigation capability.
